Overview

Upper Dolpo trek is one of the most famous trekking routes in the isolated and untouched area close to the Tibetan edge in Nepal. Dolpa is a highest unexplored paradise, situated between the Dhaulagiri Himalayan range and the Tibetan Plateau. Trekking in the Upper Dolpa, the region of mystical beauty surely adds to the sense of adventure among its trekkers. The land of Upper Dolpa is filled with beautiful Valley, gigantic mountains, greenery forest of rhododendrons, oaks, pines, local settlements (isolated villages of Ringmo) and their unique culture and traditions. Travelers usually love to trek far-western Upper Dolpa region due to its wilderness, mesmerizing Shey Phoksundo Lake, spectacular landscapes, and ancients monasteries. This amazing trek will take us to one of the most remote areas of the Himalaya and provide an opportunity to encounter various rare wildlife and experience the real nature of wilderness. Shey Phoksundo National Park, one of the highest animal concentration parks in the world is really amazing but watch out for snow leopards. This adventurous trek lets you explore major attractions of Upper Dolpa such as; beautiful Shey-Phoksundo lake, the deepest lake of Nepal along with soaring snowcapped peaks, ancient Buddhist monasteries “Shey Gompa”, a pristine lake and many more.

The way to Upper Dolpa trekking offers us to witness native settlements, spectacular Himalayans and admire the impressive Phoksundo Lake. From the Shey Gompa, we follow a part of the old Transport Himalayan Trade Route and return back to Jhuphal to finish our trek. The beauty of this trek is the wildlife and isolated areas of Nepal. The best seasons to explore this outstanding trek is in the spring and fall season (April, May, October, and November). In this season in Nepal, the temperature is fine and skies are clear which helps to make one of the best treks in Nepal.

Itenarary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu


As you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will warmly greet you and you will transfer to your hotel where you can do some rest and fresh yourself. In the evening, our representative will give you a brief explanation of the further trek. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2: Sightseeing Kathmandu Valley


This day, we will manage you to visit major national and cultural heritage site; Pashupatinath, monkey temple Swyambhunath, Royal Kathmandu Durbar Square, largest stupa called Bouddhanath and many more. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj


Today, early in the morning after having breakfast, we will take a flight for Nepalgunj from Kathmandu. Around 45 minutes flight takes you to the western part of Nepal, a steaming hot city. It is a plain land hesitated by different people from different parts of the country and which in culture and heritage. It includes Bageshowri temple, Nepal one of the important Hindu temples.

Day 4: Nepalgunj to Juphal


Today, after early breakfast we will reach Juphal, around 35-minute flight from Nepalgunj, offers you attractive areal views of snowcapped mountains. Juphal is a small beautiful mountain village, where you can get chances to interact with the native people of the mountain. Overnight at Jhupal.

Day 5: Juphal to Chhepka - (2838m)


From today we will officially begin our trekking towards Chhepka, which is situated at the altitude of the 2838m. we have to descend through wheat and vegetable field to reach Thuli Bheri River. The further trail will lead you to the Shey Phoksundo National Park (SPNP), largest National Park with the area of 3,555km/sq, where you will get chances to encounter varieties types of floras and faunas. We will also follow wonderful Suli Khola where you will view stunning Dhaulagiri Range. there. The way to the Chhepka, you will witness forest of pine tree line spruce, fir, Juniper and Cyprus, bamboo forest and many more. Overnight at Chhepka.

Day 6: Chhepka to Palam - (3820m) - 6-7 hrs Walk


In this day, early in the morning after having breakfast, we will follow beautiful forest, side by a river. Today, our trail will be sometimes ascending and sometimes descend. On the way, we can witness the indigenous people with their mules as dzopas (cross bread of Yak and Cow). The further trail will lead us to Reechi village, Chumuwar, Amchi Hospital, and finally, reach Palam. Overnight at Palam.

Day 7: Palam to Shey Phoksundo Lake - (3620m) 4 hrs Walk


Today, after early breakfast, we will trek around 4 hours and reach to a beautiful Shey Phoksundo Lake. After exploration of Shey Phoksundo Lake, we will continue our trail following highest waterfall, a spectacular waterfall of 107m high knows Phoksundo waterfall as known as sunlight waterfall. You will also get chances to explore ancient Buddha Lonpa Shanrab Miwo, Bon Kindom called Zhang, a powerful kingdom in present western and northwestern Tibet. It is believed that in the century Zhang was defeated by the Buddhist kingdom of Tibet and Bonpo disappeared completely, but still some people practice it. Overnight at Shey Phoksundo.

Day 8: Exploring Day


Today is our rest day in the Shey Phoksundo Lake and get chances to admire beautiful Shey Phoksundo lake and visit native villages inhabited by Bon and Buddhist religion. Overnight at Shey Phoksundo Lake.

Day 9: Trek to Salla Ghari - (3640m) - 5-6 hrs Walk


This day, we will enter a restricted area of Upper Dolpo. We will follow the famous trail where the famous movie called CARAVAN of Eric Valli was cast. This trail is used by peoples of Dolpo and other trade with Tibetans. Ti is really adventurous to pass through the trail. When we reach the top, we will have a beautiful view of Lane Ringmo, the dark green pine forests and snow-capped mountain to the South. We will have to descend first and ascend through a wide valley which will let us have a spectacular view of Kanjirowa Himal (66612m) then we will reach an alpine area with junipers called Thaneba or Lakeside camp, a beautiful place of camping. Overnight at a tented camp.

Day 10: Trek to Shey Gompa - (4320m) - 7-8 hrs Walk


Today, the walk us physically demanding route prevailed with the soft stones slates. We cross the Kang La Pass(5350m), also called as Ngadra La and walk through the gradual ascending for a couple of hours. After we reach the hill, we’ll observe the outstanding views of the stunning landscape. The walk is still challenging. We can see a beautiful red monastery which is a famous Shey Gompa, 11th-century gompa, situated beneath the crystal peak on a small grassy plain. Overnight in Shey Gompa.
 

Day 11: Rest Day - Shey Gompa


Today, we spend our whole day exploring Shey Gompa. The region is connected to the mountain which is crystal. It is famous among the Tibetan Lama where people come to meditate in the tranquil environment.  Exploring the spiritual heart of Dolpo, spectacular mountain view; stunning beauty of Kangirowa Himal and discover historic Gompa monastery and Chaiba community. It is also renowned site in the Dolpo Region. Overnight at Camp.

Day 12: Trek to Namgung - (4430m) - 6 hrs Walk


We walk through the Juniper forest and climb to the rocky canyon. The trail goes through the flat landscape and crosses Glen Pass, which also offers splendid views of northern part of Tibetan and the Saldang La Pass. We climb towards the Namguna Village which has got a monastery that belongs to the Karma Pa sect of Buddhism. Overnight in Namgua Gaon.

Day 13: Trek to Saldang - (4046m) - 3 hrs Walk


After we pass the Namgung Monastery, we start to climb uphill towards the dusty trail where we can get the views of the barren landscape. We walk through a wonderful village in the inner Dolpo area and finally reach Saldang, situated on a plateau high above the Nam Khong nala and the biggest villages of lower Dolpo area. Overnight in Saldang.

Day 14: Trek to Sibu - (4000m) - 6 hrs Walk


We catch the trail down to the Riverbed across the picturesque terraced fields, Stupas, Chortens Mani and a Chaiba monastery. We walk through various Chhortens and Mani walls that signify the mystical prowess of spiritual people. From the Namdo Village, we descend to the Riverbed along the high slope and reach to Sibu. Overnight in Sibu.

Day 15: Trek to the foot of the Jengla - (4480m) - 4-5 hrs Walk


After an early breakfast, we walk along an easy trail. Walking for a couple of hours, we cross a stream and head through the pleasant trail beside the village and reach on the foot of Jeng La. Overnight in Jeng La.

Day 16: Trek to Tokyu Gaon (4240 m): 6-7 Hrs


We gently limb towards Jeng La on the top that offers a striking view of the beautiful Dhaulagiri peak that glitters far on the horizon with the sunlight. We continuously trek towards Tarap Chu and ascend towards Tokyu Gaon which is surrounded by various Monasteries and Chhortens. Overnight in Tokyu Gaon.

Day 17: Trek to Dho Tarap (4090 m): 4-5 Hrs.


The trek continues towards Chaiba Gompa and then towards a gentle trail that crosses the animal herds and beautiful farming lands. You can see people wearing unique dresses that introduce unique culture and tradition. On further walking, we reach Dho Tarap. Overnight in Dho Tarap.

Day 18: Trek to Serkam (3630 m): 5-6 Hrs


Early in the morning, we walk on the bank of Tarap Khola and head towards narrow George. We can observe the beautiful view of the Himalayas that forces us to capture the moments in the camera. After crossing a suspension bridge, we reach Serkam. Overnight in Serkam.

Day 19: Trek to Khani Gaon (2550 m): 5-6 Hrs


We follow the trail of George of the Tara River. The trail is steep slope with the narrow and crumbly path. After crossing various meadows, we reach Khani Gaon. Overnight in Khani Gaon.

Day 20: Trek to Tarakot (2281 m): 3-4 Hrs.


After an early breakfast, we decent towards Tarakot. The trail goes through the steep landscape and crosses suspension bridge. Overnight in Tarakot.

Day 21: Tarakot to Dunai - (2109m)


Today, early in the morning after having breakfast, we will make our trail towards Dunai, which is situated at the altitude of 2109m. The way to the Dunai, we will have a gentle trail through beautiful scenic surrounding and small native settlements. We will walk beside the Bheri River and finally reach Dunai. Overnight at Dunai.

Day 22: Trek to Juphal - (2404m)


Next morning, after early breakfast, we will make our step toward Juphal, which is situated at the summit of 2404m. The way to Jhuphal, you will pass beautiful native settlement with scenic surrounding and eventually, you will reach to Juphal. Overnight at Juphal.

Day 23: Flight to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj


Today, early in the morning after having breakfast, you can take a flight from Jhupal to Nepalgunj and again you will take a connecting flight to Kathmandu. Todays, flight journey offers you Himalayan foothills, with fine views of the main peaks including Annapurna and Dhaulagiri to the north. Overnight at Kathmandu hotel.

Day 24: Departure to your destination


Today is your departure day, our representative will drop you to the International airport for the final destination.

Similarly, Tourist Visa with Multiple Entries for 30 days and 90 days can be obtained by paying USD 40 and 100 respectively. Please bring 2 copies of passport size photos.)
